Show New Teachers on Duty At Grand High School By Brad Barton Five new teachers were added to the Grand County High School teaching staff for ttip 7fi-77 school vear. One joined the business department, depart-ment, two to English, one to music and one to the speech department. t In the business department Mr. Richard McArthur, who plans to be at GCHS for awhile -is originally from St. George, Utah. He spent two years at Dixie College and two years at SUSC. He majored in business education and plans to continue contin-ue at Utah State University in distributive education. Mr. McArthur says he's really impressed with the programs in GCHS and he added, "With the enthusiasm of the staff and students at GCHS, they are going to go a long way." He is married and has a son eight months old. In the English department is Mrs. Ruth Williams who is originally from Missouri. She spent four years at Lincoln University, where she majored ma-jored in English. She has taken courses from three other universities. She has taught in New Mexico, Nevada, Missouri, Mis-souri, and Turkey. She is presently teaching English and journalism. She is married and has a boy eight years old. She enjoys teaching and living in Moab. In the speech department there is a young teacher, 25 years old to be exact, Miss Maralee Roberts. Miss Roberts Rob-erts is originally from Wor-' Wor-' land, Wyoming. She went to BYU for five years, where she majored in speech, drama, and education. She then went tc Walsenburg, Colorado, where she taught for one semester al , - Walsenburg High. She doesn'i , know how long she will be ai GCHS. She likes to travel; she has a brother in the Air Fora in Italy; and she plans to visi Europe next summer. She loves the area around Moab -. and has; - visited 'the. Arches: several times in her brief stay. she likes to back pack, likes old Humphrey Bolgart movies, admires Paul Newman, and loves to attend plays and dances. She is also the Sophmore Class Advisor. In the band department is Miss Phyllis Reed. She is originally from Holyoke, Colorado. Colo-rado. She went to Colorado State, Greely, which is now known as Northern' Colorado State University, where she spent four years. She also has taken classes from Utah State. She majored in music education educa-tion and taught elementary in Moab. She enjoys reading, backpacking, and in the summer she plays fastpitch Softball. She likes listening to Bach and playing the bass clarinet. She has ideas for using the band during basketball basket-ball season, and plans to build the band to a praiseworthy group. In the English Department, Mr. Darwin Gilger has an interesting background. Before Be-fore teaching he worked for J.C. Penny's Department store. He served fifteen years in management positions. Then he went to college, consequently he graduated from college the same year his daughter graduated from high school. He says the reason for going into education was that school was more regular and he had weekends off. He went to college at Southern Utah for three years, where he graduated. gradu-ated. He majored in English with a minor in psychology. He , did post graduate work at Utah State for one summer. He is , originally from Parawon, Ut. He likes woodwork, farming, t and gardening. He's married and has four children, all , married and living, in such t places as Salt Lake, San Diego, and Moab. |
