In fact, most of it has already happened! Two weeks ago our family took a Sunday afternoon drive through the old M-4 ranch to LaSal Pass. Immediately after leaving the Pack Creek Campground, Camp-ground, we encountered huge Hoggatds - water bars as the Forest Service refers to them. Several of these water bars were so steep that we had to use four-wheel drive to mount them. As I see it, the reason for the steep grade is the depth of the water bars. We stood up in the bottom of the water bars and found it impossible to see out! Consequently, upon entering enter-ing the bars from the downhill side, the grade is too steep to be made with a two-wheel drive pickup. It takes very little foresight to see that in bad weather the water bars will be either deep mudholes or deep snowdrifts. The frequency of the ditches is astounding. For half-mile lengths we found that these deep ravines had been constructed const-ructed every twenty or thirty yards. No sooner did we come out of one but that we found ourselves in another. The entire ride reminded me of a roller coaster ride. Comments from several old timers in the area have included these repeated phrases: phras-es: "idiotic" actions, "overkill," "over-kill," and a "gross exaggeration." exagger-ation." The same attitude is reflected by the fact that when the bid forms were sent to local contractors for the making of the water bars several contractors refused to even turn in a bid. I encourage you, the reader, to take a trip over the two passes and then take five minutes to write your reaction n this column next week. Til be looking for your personal opinion. A Loyal Moab Resident Letter to Editor: When a town is substantially substantial-ly dependent on outside sources for their viewing entertainment, it is truly gratifying to have someone invest their time and finances in a theater of the caliber of the Grand Cinema. We will now have "good" movies available at a reasonable price in a quality theater. Viewing movies in a theater as compared to those on television televis-ion is much like comparing watching a sporting event in person versus on television -not quite the same feeling.
