Weeklong ceremonies will culminate with the parade, I football game against Delta, I and a dance, all happening on I Wednesday, October 6. ' COUNCIL PLANS I Thursday, September 23, the Student Council, under the k direction of Mrs. Francis Foy, held a meeting concerning I Homecoming activities for the I 1976-77 Homecoming. Com-j Com-j mittees were formed from the student council members to j work on different activities. The activities began with ; the football team nominating ; the Homecoming Royalty ; Monday afternoon, Sept. 27. ; Following the elections, the I student-body will have their I chance to hear from each of ! the young ladies chosen. ; Voting will follow that after- i . noon. Mf 'A Prepared by the i j Journalism Department at i ' ' Grand County High School off their school spirit by wearing socks, ties, boots, hats, etc. on certain days such as sock-it-to-em-day, tie-em-up day, hats-off-to-Devils day, and Boot-em-day. The week will be ended by Red and White day. Homecoming afternoon there will be a parade with different float entries following follow-ing our Homecoming theme. This year it is "Rabbits get in Devil Land." Each class can fill in the blank with whatever they want. Later that evening there will be a snake dance down by City Market parking lot and a cavalcade down Main Street. Following the game the Devils will celebrate their victory with a dance. All alumni are welcome to come too. We would also like to see all our devil fans out to help us cheer the Devils on to victory. AT MEETINGS Two administrators of the Grand County school system attended Region Seven Board of Managers meeting Tuesday, Tues-day, September 21, at the San Juan High School. Theron Johnson, Grand County High School Principal, and Superintendant Bill Mea-dor Mea-dor met with others from the region at San Juan for the discussion. These meetings, to establish dates of various Region Seven activities, are held monthly throughout tfie school year. Policies and regulations aire established for activities such as speech meets, music competition, and both girls and boys sports. Also, problems prob-lems pertaining to region sports and activities are discussed. There are eleven schools in Region Seven including Grand County High. : Members of the region board include all principals of participating high schools in region seven and superintendents superinten-dents of that region. CHAIRMAN NAMED Chairmen for the ten homecoming home-coming committees were formed last week by the pep club. They are: float committee, commit-tee, Debbie Hawks; assembly committee, Cindy Lenamond and Wendy Leonard; royalty banners committee, Laurie Hetzel and Cynthia Tibbetts; committee for making pinnes, Jamie Holyoak; chairman for selling advance tickets for the Homecoming dance and also for making posters is Judy Martinez; and chairmen for the wilddays committee are Roxie Proctor and Debbie Hawks. Any student, boy or girl, interested in joining pep club, pay the dues of $2.50 and attend the next meeting. A BYU FAN Mrs. Holyoak, the Home Economics Ec-onomics teacher at GCHS, is the normal every day teacher. She is originally from California. Califor-nia. Mrs. Holyoak has been in Moab for four years and taught for four years. She . majored in Home Economics -ri-at BYU. Presently she is busy teaching her home economic classes how to sew and decorate cakes. The girls who are good at decorating, and want to, will offer the cakes they make to anyone who wants to buy them. Also they will be doing a research paper on exploration in living. After they are finished, it will be sent to Salt Lake City to be looked over. What interesting hobbies does Mrs. Holyoak have? She likes the garden, sewing, and cake decorating. She is taking a wood shop class. Mrs. Holyoak likes to watch football and especially to see BYU beat other teams. Other than the money problems Mrs. Holyoak thinks GCHS is like any other school. IMPORTANT DAY Monday, September 26, was an important day for the Grand County High School tennis team. The team hosted Emery and San Juan at their first tournament with an excellent result. - r t : In the tournament a 'process of elimination was used; and as a result. Shirley Nelson from Moab came in first place, Judy Martinez from Moab came in second, and a tie between Carie Anderson and Lori McCurdy, both from Moab also, came in third. There was no play off for fourth place. While talking to some who were involved in the tournament, tourna-ment, Mrs. Joyce Victor, official, said, "We hosted Emery and San Juan who were very inexperienced." "They were brand new at tennis, some hadn't even played tennis before, so they were not much competition," replied first place winner, Shirley Nelson. Second place winner, Judy Martinez, said, "I thought it was pretty hard, especially when we had to play against ourselves." Third place winner, Lori McCurdy said, "I think it was a fairly easy tournament." GAME CANCELLED The Moab vs. Cortez JV game was cancelled because of the rain.
