Show Utah farm leaders to gather July 18 Some 200 farm leaders from most counties of Utah will be gathering next week to examine exam-ine current action on farm issues and to plan policy for the Utah Farm Bureau Federation Federa-tion (UFBF) for 1978. A Midyear Conference to which all Farm Bureau member mem-ber families are invited will take place at Bottle Hollow resort in Uintah County Monday and Tuesday, July 18-19, 1977. One annual feature of the meeting is to discuss and list issues on which UFBF policy may be made at the winter convention. Farm Bureau policy pol-icy is made by the members themselves at county, state and national levels each year. UFBF President Elmo W. Hamilton, a farmer in River-ton. River-ton. Salt Lake County, will preside over the two-day session. Besides the issue-surfacing activity, members from around the state will hear several speakers review the status of awrirnltural issues at the state 0 and national levels. The Honorable Glade Sowards, speaker of the Utah House of Representatives, will discuss state issues, including the use of drought relief funds, while Ed Yawn, assistant director for national affairs in the Washington. Wash-ington. D.C.. office of the American Farm Bureau, will review issues now before .Congress. UFBF head Hamilton Hamil-ton and State Engineer Dec Hansen will discuss water shortages and their impact on farm production and energy development. Several experts will also take a look at the Clean Water Act and its likely effects on farmers and ranchers as they work to meet the requirements of that federal law. Farm leaders attending the conference will hear discussions discus-sions on several new Farm Bureau programs. These in clude an "Owner's Mark" property identification program pro-gram for crime prevention: a i group purchasing program for grease, oil and tillage tool replacement parts; a training slide-tape presentation for more effective committee work in county Farm Bureaus; and a new Cookout King Contest featuring county and state competition. Wiiulup speaker on the program, which ctuls Tuesday noon, will be Robert G. Arnold, president of Arnold Machinery Company in Salt lake City. His subject will be: "Is There Freedom in Your Future?" |
