Show Bridges leads all area parks in visitation increase Natural Bridges National Monument continued to lead all other area parks in visitation increases during June, as a total of 10,303 visitors stopped at the monument, located near newly-completed Utah Highway 95. This represents repre-sents an increase of 30 percent over June of last year. To date, Bridges is showing an increase of 75 percent for the year. Island in the Sky district of Canyon-lands Canyon-lands National Park showed an increase of 22 percent for the month and 62 percent for the year, but all other sections of Canyonlands showed decreases de-creases in visitation. The Needles district showed a decrease of 40 percent from last year's June figures, and the wilderness Maze section showed a decrease of 57 percent. Arches National Park, still running ahead of last year with a total of 143,849 visitors since January 1, showed a decrease of 9 percent during June, with only 48,123 visitors compared to 53,017 in June of last year. River visitation showed a decrease of 73 percent during June, and is down 66 percent for the year-a reflection on extremely low water levels. Overnight visitors to all parks were down, with the exception to Island in the Sky, where nearly double the number of campers enjoyed the overlooks and Mesas of the section. |
