Several tournaments tourna-ments such as horseshoes and tennis were played throughout the three-day period. On the last day there were innumerable events, although some, like the Lions Club breakfast, were cancelled due to rain. But nothing could stop the parade, even though many a lovely lady's hairdo was ruined and crepe paper decorations decor-ations spouted riverlets of green, red. blue, and yellow. The award for the most attractive float went to the Blanding Mercantile, while the Class of '47 had the most humorous one. 21st Century was awarded a prize for best theme, and the parade sweepstakes sweep-stakes was taken by the San Juan H.S. An Anything Goes contest, similar to the pseudo-serious television program, was held with seven teams participating. participat-ing. Some of the events included a 16-legged race, barrel rolling and a layer cake race employing tubeless tires. The Canyonlanders singing group put on an outdcxr show which included partriotic songs such as "Look Up America" and the "American Trilogy." as well as popular music like "Country Roads" and a medley of Beatles hits. There were several motorcycle motor-cycle events such as sprint races, a motor-cross, and a hill climb which also included jeeps and pick-up trucks. The play. "The Fantastics" was performed the last two evenings and a pow-wow was held the first night. |
