She first taught grades one thru four and four thru eight. For the past twenty years, she ' ii ; J;as t;!'.lil. in Utah, lu-r "adopted home slate. " Her first teaching in Llti'ti was al l.;lSid and there she met ami married her husband Harold Foy. At, l.;,Sal she! 'iiiiht grades one thru eight experiencing in her words, "1'oth trials and joys wiith the joys predominating." Mrs. Foy began teaching I" Moab in 11)54 assigned to the Junior High F.nglish and Social Studies, later accepting accept-ing an assignment, in the Senior High School teaching lonlli grade English. Teaching, to Mrs. Foy js ;m integral part of her life. She continually tries to tande the learning of her students so that it js planned, plann-ed, purposeful and meaningful. meaning-ful. She appreciates the need lor change in educational practices with even greater modifications to be the pattern pat-tern for the future, Superintendent Superin-tendent Sundwall stated. "I am teaching young people peo-ple now who are very different differ-ent from the ones of tho same age when I first started teaching and they are living in a greatly changed society," she ;.'iiit Qlw t.. ....... ic win. jiva liuisuil as "a part of a shifting educational edu-cational pattern in which we can use the good from the past combined with ongoing changes to build a better iu-ture." iu-ture." In addition to her successful success-ful teaching career, Mrs. Foy is the mother of four children, two girls and two boys. Her activities in the community and in the school reflect her attitude of service. ser-vice. She has assisted both Boy and Girl Scout projects and community drives, such as, those for the Heart Fund and Community Concert. She has sponsored both the Junior Jun-ior National lienor Society jnd the National Honor Society So-ciety in the schools. She believes be-lieves in teacher professionalism profession-alism and is a member of the Grand Education Association, Asso-ciation, the. Utah Education Association and a life member mem-ber of the National Education Educa-tion Association. She is presently pre-sently serving as president of the local teachers. Further recognition of her values to Moab schools was given by the Grand District-Board District-Board of Education. In a resolution res-olution Monday evening, the Board commended her for her continuous efforts in making educational experiences exper-iences worthwhile to the students stu-dents in her classes. ''We recognize and appreciate appre-ciate what you have done and are doing for our schools. It is through teaching excellence excel-lence such as yours that students stu-dents learn and society benefits. bene-fits. It is most meaningful to us as it must be to you, that your fellow co-workers chose ycu as Teacher of the Year," the Board commendation stated. |
