Show Two Moab Men Injured In Gas Truck Fire A fire of undetermined origin or-igin which began as a LaSai Oil Company truck was filling fill-ing a 1.000 butane tank at Redd Ranches in LaSal left two Moab men injured with first and second degree burns on their faces and hands Tuesday night. Injured in the accident were Doyle Brake, 27, and Don Hilliard, 32. According to San Juan County Sheriff Rigby Wright, the truck apparently ap-parently caught fire in the pump area and ignited the stream of propane. Periodic bursts of flame shot high into the air as the propane heated heat-ed in the tank and safety valves allowed the fuel to escape. Six firemen from Monti-cello Monti-cello as well as a number of people from LaSal worked on the fire from about 9 p.m. until 11 p.m. when it was finally cooled off. About $5,000 damage dam-age was listed to the truck and only minor property damage da-mage at Redd Ranches. Residents Res-idents near the fire wera evacuated in case an explosion ex-plosion did occur, however, safety valves on the trucks generally prevent any explosion. explo-sion. This is the second loss in property for LaSal Oil in less than a week with the first incident occurring last week when ' Doyle Brake stopped on an icy hillside on the way into the Keystone Wallace mill site. When Brake got out of the truck to see if the road was too icy to proceed, pro-ceed, the brakes apparently failed and the truck went over an embankment and was totally demolished. Around Ar-ound 5,000 gallons of butane leaked from the truck, but there was no damage to the Keystone buildings, although personnel were evacuated tor a time. |
