Lancaster, first of the national guards, nwn to be placed on trial on Indictment Indict-ment charging first degree murder In connection with the lynching of William Wil-liam Halrd. a coal miner, at jasper on January 13. to bring Into the case the alleged connection of the I'nited Mine Workers of America, failed when the court sustained objection of the state to questions propounded to Coroner A. B. Lcgg of Walker county. The defence sought to show that Coroner Lepg started his investigation of the lynching at the instance of the miners organization and that the coroner permitted counsel for the organisation or-ganisation to remain with the jury during its Investigation. Judge Horace C Wilkinson, special j counsel for the state, jumped to his feet with an objection, urging the court to Instruct the jury not to consider con-sider such questions, and the attorneys attor-neys not again to propaund them. The court sustained the objection of the slate without giving any instructions to the jury or saying what the court will do with further questions of a similar nature. |
