Show GOVERNOR REFUTES RUMOR OF NEW BOND ISSUE Committee Making Investigation Investi-gation of Road Situation and Finances Talk about another road bond issue for one million dollars to complete contracts for work which Mt was said Governor Mabey was considering, Is pronounced without foundation at the governor's office. There Is a committee appointed by Governor Mabey to go over the several sev-eral uncompleted projects and .to ascertain as-certain what is necessary to be done to complete the work. This committee commit-tee consists of William Bailey, secretary sec-retary of the state bonrd of equalization equaliza-tion and assessment ; Dr. Richard R-I R-I Lyman and Professor William Peter-I Peter-I son. The members of the committee J have been going over the figures, said Mr. Bailey today, and will con-I con-I tinue the inquiry, but no conclusion J has been reached, nor has there been f - any . recommendation yet made to the governor. "The committee," continued Mr. Bailey, Vhas found that projects now under way and which In some instances in-stances are 76 per cent completed, will require an additional expenditure of $1,188,501 to finish the state's por- tlon of the work, and to bring this about there is practically nothing In sight but a bond issue of a million J dollars. The state Ik so close to the margin of its bond limit thst It rrn-drs rrn-drs matters somewhat dangerous. f 'However, if the program is to be carried out, there is nothing left bu; a bond Issue, and some action by ' the legislature mus be had, as trfe ' atate Is powerless in tho matter of eithtr building or maintainlne thu roads." |
