Show Detton, Longson Top Friday Arena Show Dean Detton, the mauler who has been a champion, and Bill Longson, the one who wants to be champion, headline Friday night's j nat ghow at the local arena in a bout which promises to be bundant j Other bouts follow: The "Red Shadow" vs. Lete Hcnning; Sherm Christensen vs. Dick Leaver; Benny Ginsberg, vs. Bob Jessen: JoeTonti vs. George Harben. and Leo Papi-ano Papi-ano vs. Wally Thompson. in action. Detton and Longson are both Salt Lakers and rated among the best in the grunt-groan ton;. Detton Det-ton held the world's championship until several months ago, losing it to Bronko Nagurski of International Interna-tional Falls, Minn. Longson was rapidly climbing the ladder to wrestling success when he was temporarily thwarted and put on the shelf for a year by Man Mountain Dean. The 317-pound 317-pound bearded behemoth stopped him with a running broad jump and Wild -Wiilyam" suffered a back injury which caused no little pain ajid inconvenience. The "Sugarhouse Pride" has practically recovered from this setback set-back and has suffered few reverses since that time, although he lost this week in Denver to Gus Sonne Son-ne n berg. When he forgets the rough stuff Detton is a natural born wrestler, and one who knows just about all the tricks of the trade. His former manager. Jack Washburn, is now the local promoter of both boxing and wrestling. The fray will be over the two-out-of-three-fall route, with a one-hour one-hour tune limit. , |
