Show New Pro Stars Set Up Records NEW YORK. Dec. (UP) Three of the four new Individual records established in the National Pro Football league were set by freshmen fresh-men performers, final league statistics sta-tistics showed today. Sammy Baugh, the Texas Christian Chris-tian star, who came to the Washington Wash-ington Redskins, completed 81 forward for-ward passes to better the mark of 77 established by Arnie Herber of Ureen Bay last year. Uaynell Tlnsley, former I 8. U. end. gained 675 yards, receiving passes for he Chicago Cardinals, to surpass the B32 yards made by Don Hutson this year. Hutson's mark last year was 628 yards. Joe Reed, a teammate of Tins-ley Tins-ley at L. S. U.. threw him a pass that gained 93 yards against the Chicago Bears to shatter the previous pre-vious high gain of S3 set by the Herber-to-Hutson combination in 1934. Hutson caught 41 passes this year to better his own mark of 34. Only other player to retain leadership leader-ship in any department was Jsck Manders. who kicked eight field goals. Five individual titles changed hands. Manders with 69 points (24 from field goals), ousted Dutch Clark of Detroit as high scorer. Baugh, In addition to breaking Herber's total pass mark, also became be-came th new leader In distance gained by passing with 1127 yards. .Herber gained 1239 yards last year, and the mark stands as the all-time all-time record. |
