Show DAVIS TOMATO PACK-STARTED CLEARFIELD With operations already started at two factories and two mora due to open In the next few days, canning of Davis county's 1937 tomato crop was under un-der way Thursday. The first pack of the season was made-Thursday by the Smith. Canning Can-ning company of Clearfield. A. T. Smith, owner of the concern, said be believes this year's pack will be normal despite almost complete destruction de-struction of some patches by white fly blight and canker. At the peak of the canning season, this plant alone will give employ ment to approximately 330 girls and 150 men, he said. The com- psny has contracted 500 acres this year as compared to 600 for the prevjous season. The Woods Cross Canning company, com-pany, also at Clearfield, started operation op-eration Thursday. With 400 acres contracted, this firm will give jobs to 100 girls and 60 men later in the season, according to R. Alvin Moss, manager. Another factory owned by the Woods Cross company com-pany is scheduled to open on September Sep-tember 1 at Lavton, when 70 girls and 40 men will be given work. A, total of 175 persons, including IIS girls and 60 men, will get jobs at the Kaysville Canning company plant at Syracuse, Herbert J. Barnes announced Thursday. |
