The condition is called urticaria. In 1814, an Englishman described de-scribed a ease which occurred invariably in-variably after eating . shellfish. Among the foods most commonly associated with such disturbance are mushrooms, oatmeal, strawberries straw-berries and raspberries, but almost al-most any food may bring about attacks in certain cases. Since the condition frequently resembles the ating of a nettle, it has been called "nettle rash" and It is also called "strawberry rash." As a rule, the person who ha the eruption Is not affected ao far as his general health la concerned, con-cerned, but the itching and irritation irrita-tion may be so aevere that he will have difficulty in felling asleep. Sometimes the akin is ao sensitive sensi-tive that merely scraping it with the fingernail will raise a large blister. If a whit line appears following this scratching of the skin, the condition is called der-mographla. der-mographla. In som cases the reaction is manifested by vomiting and diarrhea which are signs that the lining of the intestines is irritated irri-tated in the same way as the skin is irritated. Most people learn quite easily from observation just what foods sir most irritating to them. In children, bananas and chocolat are foods moat commonly supposed sup-posed to be the excitants of urticaria. ur-ticaria. The drug which most commonly common-ly cause this eruption is aspirin, but quinine, arsenic, phenolph-thaleln phenolph-thaleln (a common ingredient of many laxatives) and antipyrine (a common ingredient of many headache remedies) are also frequently fre-quently Implicated. Some articles of clothing produce pro-duce urticaria, particularly if the person is sensitive to wool or furs or to the dyes with which the furs are treated. The irritation comes out most often when the person is warm, as in a hot bath or in bed, but there are som cases in which cold or light also will produce the eruption. In the treatment of urticaria there are many different remedies that are prescribed to control the Itchingmnd som which will definitely defi-nitely control the appearance of the wheals and the sensitivity. Since, however, all of these drugs are potent remedies which should not be taken except with the advic of a physician, the person who suffers regularly with urticaria ahould consult his doctor doc-tor to learn whether the use of some of the other remedies is Indicated.
