Show CREWS TO CONTEST FOR SUPREMACY ON WATER POUGHKEEPSIE. N. Y., June 23. The day of the annual regatta of th Intercollegiate Rowing association, ir which six of the foremost colleges ol the East and West will meet in oper. contest for a test as to aquatic supremacy, suprem-acy, opened dark and showery thh morning, with a promise that intermittent inter-mittent rain might fall throughout tht day. The championship race for 'Varsity eight-oared crews is not scheduled for decision until 6 'o'clock this evening, so the early weather conditions were not discouraging' to the regatta officials. offi-cials. The water over the four-mile straightaway course was almost a smooth as a mlllpond during the morning, and' the promise of favorable rowing conditions more than offset the gloom cast from frowning clouds. The first race will be rowed at 4 o'clock, at which time the 'Varsity four-oared shells will be sent away on a two-mile Journey. Cornell, Columbia, Colum-bia, Syracuse and the University of Pennsylvania have entered crews -for this race. |
