It was a marvelous burst of speed that brought Lawson In ahead in the greatest great-est race ever held on a saucer track. - It was the three-mile handicap race and from scratch Lawson rode to victory vic-tory in 5:49, which beats the former record held by Samuelson of 6:11, by twenty-two seconds. The crowd at the track -went wild over the event on account of the terrific ter-rific sprint made by Lawson-to catch Hopper, who had a lead of more than fifteen yards at the beginning of the last lap. .... Law-son Law-son also put a crimp in the quarter-mile quarter-mile record, lowering the record held by Hopper of 29 1-6 seconds to 28 4-5 seconds.
