Show THREE ALLEGED HOLD-UPS, THREE ALLEGED THIEVES, ARRAIGNED IN CITY COURT Judge Diehl spent a busy morning in the criminal division of the City court today. In addition to the arguments In the case of Frank Womack, charged with murder in he first degree for the killing of Joseph Matthews, six alleged criminals were arraigned and filed their pleas. The first trio arraigned comprised Frank West. James Watson and Frank Carroll, charged with attempted robbery. rob-bery. These men are alleged to have attempted to hold up and rob M. 1. Morris on the night of November 10, and to have shot Morris when he re-I re-I elsted. l'leas of not guilty were filed in all three cases. West lias retained Attorney Attor-ney Joseph Stringfellow to defend him. while the other defendants have retained re-tained Attorneys Hannr and Ruckle to defend them. Their beil is fixed in the sum of J350 each, in default of which they were remanded to the county jail to await preliminary hearing. The other trio comprised Hans Jep-persen, Jep-persen, Charles Chapman and W. W. Baker, the latter known as "Spot King." who has s rved two terms aggregating ag-gregating nine yearn in the penitentiary. peniten-tiary. They are alleged to have bfen members of the-band of chicken thieves weo entered en-tered the chicken coop of Frank TToag-lund. I Pleas of not guilty were filed in both cases by all the defendants and each i one's bail was fixed in the aggregate sum of $500. In default of this bail they will be entertained at the county jail until the cases are concluded. |
