Show BOGUS NAMES ON THEIR PETITIONS Suffrage Advocates Said to Have Resorted to Sharp Practices. PORTLAND. Or.. Nov. 17. The Ore-gonian Ore-gonian prints today the following special spe-cial from Salem, Or.: Many petitions for the submission to the referendum of a woman's suffrage amendment to the State Constitution have been presented pre-sented to County Clerk Roland for comparison com-parison with the registration books in this county, and among them are several sev-eral petitions which have the appearance appear-ance of having been made up from pages of a visitors' register kept in the Oregon building at the Lewis and Clark fair during the exposition period. This has led to the allegation that the promoters of the suffrage movement attached at-tached to the petitions the signatures of persons who signed the register without knowing their names. One Sa-lem Sa-lem citizen whose name appears on one of the Basted pages says he thought that he was merely signing a register and not a petition. County Clerk Ko-land Ko-land says that he has noticed no evidences evi-dences of irregularity. |
