Show Accident Throws City Into Darkness . . . . . The extent to which a single accident ac-cident may disrupt activities of a whole city was demonstrated Monday Mon-day evening when a truck ran into in-to an electric power line on the Mapleton highway, throwing the city of Springville into complete darkness for about an hour and twenty minutes. The accident occurred when a coal truck driven by M. A. Forbush of Orem lost a rear wheel. The driver stopped the truck to investigate inves-tigate and as he did so, another coal truck driven by M. H. Gillien,' also of Orem, crashed into the first truck, pushingit into an electric elec-tric power pole. The impact tore the utility pole from its base and broke the wires which carry extra power to Springville. Without the supplementary supply, the Springville Spring-ville plant was unable to carry the entire load and lights were out for the early evening period. As a result of the accident, sev- eral church gatherings were can-! can-! celled as well as civic meetings, and theaters. Such an incident to say nothing of unlighted homes brings expressions of appreciation for modern conveniences and dem- onstrates how dependent a whole city may be. on a single service. j Although no personal injuries resulted from the accident, city of- j ficials regret the inconveniences townspeople experienced. Workmen : made every effort, as they do at all times when city power is dis-' dis-' rupted, to repair the damage and after replacing and repairing pole and wires temporarily, the lights ' were on again.
