Show , NATION SHOWS SENSUS JUMP A wartime rise in the birth rate was given this week as the chief cause of a population jump which added 8 million persons to the nation's na-tion's total between April 1, 1940 and July 1, 1945. In reporting this increase, the Bureau of the Census said that the birth rate .combined with an relatively low death rate to cause the accelerated rate of population gain. Even military mortality, it said, was insufficient to raise the general death rate very much. Added to these two factors was an excess of immigration over emigration, which helped to boost the rate. ,;, |
