Show Saturday Designated As Postwar Army Day Celebrations To Be Conducted Thoughout Nation With One Of Largest In Salt Lake City; Parade To Be At Noon Utah will pay its first postwar tribute to men of the Army, past and present, on Saturday. The i day has been set aside by President Harry S. Truman, for the nation, and bv Governor Herbert B. Maw, for Utah, as Armv Dav. The observance has been deveM oped entirely by civilians to increase in-crease respect for the men in uniform, uni-form, to recognize their contributions contribu-tions to peace as well as to war, to appreciate the protection they afford continuously to the nation's shores, and to interest youth of the nation in voluntary enlistments enlist-ments and the desirability of army ar-my life as a profession. While wide observance is not possible in all communities, in Utah one of the five largest observances ob-servances in the nation will be held on April 6, in Salt Lake City. It is exceeded only by those in Washington, Chicago, San Francisco Fran-cisco and Dallas, Texas. .. An hour-long parade with ten bands, marching units and the greatest collection of army materiel, mate-riel, much of it restricted from the public until now, will be held at noon, following the morning meeting of the L. D. S. conference. During the day there will be a sensational exhibit at the Salt Lake Municipal Airport, including railroad hospital cars, flying maneuvers ma-neuvers of army autogiros (helicopters), (heli-copters), jet planes, radar, public exhibition of the Norden bomb sight, and a fleet of B29 bombers. There is no charge of any sort. Several motion picture stars will be on hand. Joe E. Brown and Red Skelton have been invited invit-ed and will be present if, at all possible. |
