Show I LAMB CROP WILL BE SMALLER ' IN WESTERN STATES The 1948 lamb crop in the 13 western states will be the smallest since 1924, it was reported by livestock officials this week. . A U. S. Department of Agriculture Agricul-ture reports the 1948 crop will be 9 per cent smaller than in 1947 and 18 per cent less than in 1946. Utah producers are expected to raise slightly over one million lambs next season, approximately 67,000 less than last year From 1937 to 1946 Utah produced an average of 1,329,000 lambs yearly Nationally there will be an '8 per cent decline in next year's lamb crop. "The decline in the lamb market mar-ket is coming at a time when r there is a substantial increase in population," the livestock executives execu-tives declared. ('This means a decrease de-crease in the amount of meat available. ( "However, a close analysis of present meat prices indicates that prices of meat animals are not out of line with other commodities and increases in wages. "The only way to get cheaper meat is to increase production," it is pointed out. . |
