Show Housewives Asked To Join Battle On High Meat Prices They may be following the old adage, "Fools step in where angels fear to tread," but the women of Springville will be asked this week to join a county coun-ty and country-wide boycott on high meat prices, as plans to organize a campaign aimed to halt the purchase of meat for a 15-day period, were announced. Headed by Mrs. Rodney Steb-bins Steb-bins of Springville, an organization organi-zation was being formed Wednesday Wed-nesday to call every housewife In Springville by phone and ask her to refrain from buying meat during the period from August 15 to September 1. So if you are not called on the phone, it may be you weren't at home, but nevertheless, women of this city are being urged by the organization or-ganization not to purchase one item of meat during the period, t)ut plan meals around meat substitutes. Provo women announced a campaign Tuesday and on Wednesday Wed-nesday had their organization complete and in working order and had enlisted the help of their neighboring towns. All cities in Utah county are e$-pected e$-pected to be fully organized by the latter part of the week in an effort to bring the price of meat down. It is said the movement started start-ed in Texas, where most of the women of that state are refusing refus-ing to buy meat for a period of one week. Women in Utah will be asked to buy no meat for a 15-day period. Springville women Wednesday Wednes-day in announcing their plans, stated that butchers are heartily hearti-ly in favor of the movement with some of them stating that as long as housewives Insist on buying meat, it will be sold at prevailing high prices. It is time the women did something about it and we therefore ask the support of every Springville woman in putting forth every effort to lower meat prices by not buying meat after Satur-day, Satur-day, August 14. |
