Show Something of Which To Be Proud The people of Springville should be proud of two great strides made the past year by a civic-minded group which believe be-lieve that there is artistic and useful talent in our city. We have witnessed the rise of a civic orchestra and a Little Theatre organization both which have performed well beyond anyone's expectations. The four-act play, "An Ideal Husband," by Oscar Wilde, presented pre-sented last week, was a masterpiece master-piece in performance, staging, costuming, and directing. The Civic Orchestra thrilled audiences audi-ences in two concerts last w inter. in-ter. These are undertakings that a city much larger than Spring- ( ville would be proud to have accomplished. I wonder if we stop to realize the effect that this kind of activity ac-tivity can bring to our city? The cultural influence on ourselves our-selves and our children, the ideals which are inspired, the attraction it has to outsiders looking for an ideal place to make their home and raise their families, or the advertising it gives our town. A city is always best known for its cultural aspects. as-pects. Do we stop to consider how much work goes into such projects, proj-ects, how many months are spent preparing and rehearsing for the final presentation? A great deal more time and energy 0 goes into suc.'i performances 1 than anyone can possibly real-j real-j ize, unless he has participated in one. Yet, no one begrudges I the time spent when the projects proj-ects are a success, as these have been, and when the listening I public shows such appreciation, i The initial step toward a nil : tural uplift in Springville has I been taken. Others will follow to make our town a better place for us to live in, and a greater 1 influence on our children will be felt. Let's cooperate with these organizations or-ganizations and support them i with a little effort of our own. Don't forget that they are doing these things as much for us as lor themselves |
