Show 'BROCKBAiNK SAYS' "NO" TO M MEN TOURNEY District Six Tournament Goes To Payson After School Official Turns It Down Here Springville will not get the District Dis-trict Six M Men Tournament this year, announces District Six officers. offi-cers. The big tourney, which comprises com-prises teams from all Utah county and teams South and East Utah, and out-of-state teams also, has been successfully held in Springville Spring-ville for the past four years, but was shifted to Pavson when Prin- cipal W. W. Brockbank told district dis-trict officials, "We dont want it here this year." In a letter received by Kolob stake supervisor, district officials stated: "Your committee first decided de-cided to hold the tournament in Springville, but because of school basketball team interference it was deemed advisable by school authorities not to permit the tournament tour-nament to be held at Springville High." The tournament was then set for Spanish Fork, but, because Spanish Fork does not have any M Men clubs, it was decided to hold the meet in Payson , Feb. 21 to 24, with sixteen teams competing. compet-ing. Kolob stake has been working for the past four years to make the M Men basketball program a success and leaders were very anxious to see the M Men district tournament work out into an annual an-nual event here. Since stake M Men leaders knew nothing of the plans of the tourney this year, either by the District leaders or by the school principal, there was little that could be done to bring the tourney here again this year. Although local M Men leaders and followers are disappointed in not getting the big meet, they do ask for more cooperation in the future between the school and M Men district dis-trict officials. |
