Show : Aircraft Jack ... I f-y; JI f'' yCg&: v A new addition to standard AAF equipment, announced by the Air Technical Service Command at Wright Field, O., is this giant pillow, used to jack up aircraft on soft ground or after they have made crash landings. The idea for the pneumatic lifting bags came originally from the Germans but has been - improved upon by the ATSC equipment laboratory. Each bag can support 12 tons and only two are required to lift most planes. Slipping a deflated de-flated bag under a plane wing and inflating it is much simpler than using hydraulic jacks, engineers say. (Photo by Technical Service Command.) |
