Show SUPPLY ROUTES TO CHINA COMPLETED Announcement that a supply road has been completed from India In-dia to China does not mean that motor vehicles can be driven over the road that links North Assam with Burma highways that lead into China. The Japanese still block the road and prevent the use of the route for traffic. Another potential road into China Chi-na is nearing completion as American Amer-ican and Chinese engineers work day and night on a road to link Myitkyia to a highway west of Younan City from where a good road connects wtih the old Burma road at Lungling. This highway is expected to be open for truck traffic in the near future and may be the first to permit a convoy to get into China with supplies. Everybody remembers the "efforts "ef-forts put forth by the Japanese to cut the Burma road and to prevent pre-vent American supplies from reaching the armies of China. The Japanese still hold sections of this highway but recent progress in the fighting in Burma encourages the belief that before long the old Burma highway will join the new roads to facilitate an increased flow of munitions, weapons and equipment to China. It is quite possible, but by no means assured, that the importance import-ance of these highways will be greatly diminished when the American fleet manages to secure a base on the eastern coast of China. Chi-na. Obviously, acquisition of a port capable of handling overseas cargos, is necessary before the Chinese can receive supplies in sufficient volume to enable them to equip their soldiers for a decisive deci-sive campaign against the Japanese Japa-nese invaders. |
