Centennial Queen Contest Opens With Qualifications Listed Entries in the Springville Centennial Queen Contest Con-test are expected this week with the announcement of the qualifications for the honored distinction, follow- Hng a meeting of various Homecoming Home-coming committee members Tuesday Tues-day night. Mrs. Marcus Johnson, chairman chair-man of the queen committee, announced an-nounced that all eligible queen entries must be mailed to her and must be postmarked not later than midnight, May 26. Entry blanks are available at the Springville Spring-ville Herald office. Queen Qualifications .... Any queen entrant may be sponsored spon-sored by any club, church organization, organ-ization, business firm or individual. individ-ual. The contestant (girl) must be a resident of Springville, single, at least a Senior in high school, not more than 27 years of age, and must be a pioneer descendant. Her ancestral pioneer descendant must have been a Utah resident prior to May 10, 1869. The official Centennial Queen entry blank must be filled out and must be accompanied by a $10.00 entry fee as part of the qualifications. qualifi-cations. All money from entries will go toward sponsoring the queen and two attendants throug-out throug-out the remainder of the Centennial Centen-nial year. The queen and her attendants at-tendants will be selected by judges and will be based on the entrant's beauty, poise and personality. Out-of-Town Residents Especially Invited . . . It was also urged at the Tuesday Tues-day night meeting that all out-of-town former Springville residents resi-dents be especially invited to participate par-ticipate in the big four-day homecoming, home-coming, July 1 to 4. and committee members ask that local people, through correspondence with their friends and relatives, help get these people "back home" for renewing re-newing of friendships and acquaintances acquaint-ances as well as to have those talented ones participate in the big program for Sunday, July 2. Chairman Grant Thorn, who, with a number of other committeemen, committee-men, clubs and civic organizations, are working out the homecoming celebration, stated that anyone interested in-terested in sponsoring the Centennial Cen-tennial queen float, should inform him or the committee of their intention in-tention so that when all requests are in, the sponsor of the float can be determined. Each club and civic organization is also being asked to sponsor a queen candidate candi-date as part of their contribution to the celebration. All groups are working toward and promise to give the townspeople an outstanding outstand-ing Homecoming celebration with activities for everyone throughout the four days. - |
