Show 5 SHS Cagers Meet Wasatch High Here Friday Nite Coach Paul Wilson's Red Devils will play one more home game prior to going into the state tournament tour-nament Wednesday. They will meet the Wasatch high Wasps of Heber here Friday night at 8:15 p.m. The main game will be pre-coded pre-coded by a sophomore game at 7 p.m. The games are set as a tourney benefit to help defray expenses for the team to travel back and forth in the state joust beginning Wed. Admissions will be sold at the door. The Friday game with Heber is of much interest to the Red Devils inasmuch as the return game will almost carry over from the last one they played at Heber. He-ber. The final score after playing three extra periods, was still tied up and the game Friday will act as another "extra period" to settle set-tle the count. Coach Wilson has been 'working 'work-ing his club on bankboard work since the Devils have been some- what weak in this department despite des-pite their heighth advantage. With more rugged and top competition coming up in the tourney, the Devils will have to capitalize on both heighth and speed. Coach Wilson has developed an outstanding outstand-ing team and team spirit that has showed plenty of . fighting spirit and scoring ability. The Devils worked out Wednesday on the Ute fieldhouse court and will get another an-other practice possibly Monday or Tuesday. Devils Defeat Payson . . . In one of the most thrilling games of the year, the Springville Red Devils emerged victorious in their final game of the league at the expense of Payson 35-33 at Payson Friday. The game was close throughout, with the Devils holding the upper hand most of the way. The climax came however, in the last minutes of the game when Payson went out in front one point. Mackley stepped to the foul line and tied the game up. Springville retrived the ball and Glen Weight went in for a set-up but missed; he got a rebound and tipped it in to put the Devils out in front two points. Glade Binks drove in for a nice set-up to practically put the game on ice but then Payson dunked in a quick one just seconds before the final buzzer to leave the Devils two points ahead and a clean slate for the league games of the year. Ronald Mackley was the guiding light for the Red Devils as he played brilliant ball and racked up 13 points. Smoot's defence looked good as did Gustin's and Weight's. The Sophs won their game in a walk, 42-21. Box score and final standings follow: |
