Show RAINBOW CHAPLAIN INSPIRES COURAGE "The unusual bravery shown by the famous fa-mous Rainbow division of the Sixty-ninth New York regiment was due in a great measure to the inspiration of its chaplain, the Rev. Father Francis P. Duffy," said Atf S. Helmet, a member of that division who was in Salt Hake last night. Mr. Helmer, who was awarded the Croix de Guerre for risking his life in an attempt at-tempt to rescue comrades who liad been buried by a bomb explosion, declared that his actions would have been impossible had it not been for the heroic example set by the chaplain. I "t had seen Father Duffy." he continued, con-tinued, "rush Into the fumes of asphyxiating asphyxiat-ing gas, and tear off his mask that he might administer the last sacraments to a dying soldier, ad I could not bear the thought of appearing cowardly while he was with the regiment. The father was always brave and self-sacrificing, and, though I am not a Catholic, his example did more for me- than anything else, and I am sure my experience was the common one of the division." |
