Show ON AN EQUALITY. Now that equal suffrage in America is assured, and women have been accordedor ac-cordedor are about to be accorded the privilege of marking the ballot with the same freedom and abandon as men, no doubt many of our good ladies willl discover something else wherein equality is desirable, but still lacking. A little item in the news from Rio Janeiro calls attention to a general observance ob-servance in Brazil of a custom which unquestionably provides the acme of equality. All Brazilian husbands are expected ex-pected to wear their wedding rings as conscientiously as their wives, and, usually, they do so. Tho ring is a plain gold band, such as that worn by the wives in the United States. The item adds that "the women in Brazil unanimously uro of the opinion that this is about the last word in equality, and it is doubtful if they would exchange the custom for the right to go to the polls." |
