Show GEORGE ELLERY HALE HONORED BY FRANCE LOS ANGELES. Cal., July 13. The honor of election as associate ranker of the Academie dea Hcienccs, Instltut de France, has been conferred on Dr. George Ellery Hate, director of the Mt. Wilson observatory and foreign secretary of the National Academy of Sciences, in recognition recog-nition of his work in connection with the advancement of science. Ir. Hale takes the place in the French institution of Adolph von Baeyer, declared vacant by the academy. Foreign associates associ-ates aro limited to twelve, and the hiph distinction has been held by but two Americans in the rmst Simon Newcomb and Alexander Agassiz. It Is announced ' that the National Research Re-search council, upon recent acceptance of Dr. Half's resignation as its chairman, chair-man, has created and bestowed upon him, In perpetuity, the title of honorary chairman. |
