Show COLUMBUS KNIGHTS 1ITHT OGDEN Appeals for Patriotism Are Made at Banquet Following Fol-lowing Degree Work. Special to The Tribune. OGDEN, July 13. Stirring appeals for patriotism and the maintenance of the freedom of church and state were made In the address delivered here by Right Rev. M. J. Gallagher, bishop of Detroit, and Right Rev. Joseph S. Glass of Salt Bake diocese, the principal speakers at the initiation of a class of thirty-five members of the Knights of Columbus, late this afternoon. The initiation was followed fol-lowed by a banquet tonight. The initiation initia-tion was one of the largest held by the -local council. The work was exemplified under the direction of a degree team directed bv Deputy Richard C. Trea.nor and Past State Deputy S. Abbot Mag inn is of Salt Da ke. Tn his address Bishop Gallagher emphasized empha-sized that now, more than ever before, the safety of liberty and freedom to act our own lives were endangered. He pointed to the necessity of keeping up a strong fight against the powers at work against religion and American institutions. in-stitutions. 1 Bishop Glass paid a tribute lo the priests who had tolled in the western country, in the scattered settlements and mining camps, for the church. He said that in the vast territory under his direction direc-tion there were less than 16,000 members. He said there was going to be another war, and that was that of the powers of evil against true faith, and that "it in our duty to help maintain government and religion." The banquet in tho Fraternity block tonight was attended .by a large membership mem-bership of knights from Salt Hake, Ogden, several towns of the state and intermountain intermoun-tain states. It was a nnounred at the banquet that Judge Dan Sullivan had been appointed district deputy for Ogden and Robert Mark, district deputy for Salt Lake. |
