Show MINES RELIEF BOARD MEETS IN CALIFORNIA A special commission composed of mining min-ing and law experts has commenced hearings hear-ings of claims . for losses sustained by corporations and Individuals who mined for tungsten, chrome and manganese ore at the request of the United States government gov-ernment for war purposes, says the San Francisco Chronicle. Claims on the docket here include mining min-ing losses In California, Nevada, Arizona and New Mexico. Hearings here are expected ex-pected to occupy many days, and sittings of the committee will be held later at points In Washington, Oregon, Idaho and Utah. Transcripts of the testimony in each case, together with recommendations of the commission, will be referred to the office of Secretary of the Interior Lane for action. Claims already filed total more than 518,000,000, while congress has made a tentative arrangement for an appropriation appropria-tion of $8,500,000 for settlement. The commissioners are former United States Senator John F. Shafroth, Congressman Con-gressman M. D. Foster of Illinois. Phillip N. Moore, president of the American Institute In-stitute of Mining Engineers; Paul S. Black and H. E. Meyers, attorneys. |
