Show BATTLESHIP NOW , IN VICTORIA HARBOR VICTORIA, B. C, Sept. 11. (By tho Associated Press.) With shore batteries bat-teries and ships' guns booming their salutes in a drizzling rain, he V. S. S. New Mexico and Arkansas, with Secretary Sec-retary of the Navy Daniels and Admiral Ad-miral Hugh Rodman aboard, convoyed by a division of destroyers, dropped anchor in Victoria harbor late today. As the flagship New Mexico came to anchor and the British naval ensign climbed to her mast head, the roar of a 21-inch gun salute rolled across the waters of the Royal roads, to be followed fol-lowed by the return salute from the guns of Work Point. Then came nineteen nine-teen guns from the shore batteries in honor of the secretary, to be returned by nineteen from the Arkansas. "Shortly afterward' tho official reception recep-tion party came aboard the Arkansas, Heading the party was Premier John Oliver of British Columbia. Tonight the secretary was the guest of honor at a dinner given by the Canadian Cana-dian club, while Mrs. Daniels was entertained en-tertained by Mrs. Oliver, wife of the premier. |
