Show MINERS APPROVE mm pi Nationalization of All Coal Mines Indorsed by Cleveland Cleve-land Convention. CLEVELAND, O., Sept. 11. Nationalization National-ization of mines as a general principle w-as approved this afternoon by the convention of the United Mine Workers of America with only one dissenting voice, the sole objector being shouted down when he declared nationalization an impossibility. Concrete proposals for nationalization are expected when the report of the committee commit-tee on resolutions is presented. The convention voted with the same unanimity for the six-hour day and five-day five-day week In all coal mines to be incorporated incor-porated in the demands presented to the mine operators at the joint wage conference confer-ence at Buffalo September 25, but deferred discussion of specific wage demands until j next week. Debs, and formerly attor-I ney for the mine workers In tho "Cherry Hill mine disaster cae, addressed the delegates on behalf of Debs, Rose Pastor Stokes and others convicted under the espionage act. He invited the mine workers work-ers to send representatives to the "American "Ameri-can freedom convention" at Chicago September Sep-tember 26, called to press for their release and the repeal of the act. The convention stands adjourned tomorrow tomor-row owing to the funeral of John Mitchell, which will he attended by a large delegation delega-tion from the convention. |
