Show eigTin Intermountain Tourney Expected Ex-pected to Furnish Many Stiff Matches. With a big program of events and an array of tennis stars seldom seen in action ac-tion at ono meeting, the annual intermountain inter-mountain tennis tournament will open on the Salt Lake Tennis club's courts Monday, Mon-day, August 25. The entry committee has been working hard to make this year's event bigger and , hotter than ever before and it has succeeded suc-ceeded in signing up some of the fastest j racquet wielders In the west. Entries are , pouring in from all parts of the inter-; inter-; mountain region, and the meeting prom-; prom-; ises to produce some ot tne best tennia ever seen in the city. Most of the local stars have already sent in their entries, and, as the lists will be open for tho remainder re-mainder of the week, everything looks favorable fa-vorable for Salt Lake to have a big representation rep-resentation In the tournament. Probably the best known of the out-of-town players, and who has always sent in his entry. Is Kenneth Simmons of Butte, tho present state singles champion of Montana and also intermountain doubles dou-bles champion. Simmons was a member of the Yale tennis team of 1917-18 and is accounted a player of the highest order. Local enthusiasts are looking forward to eomo spirited matches when Simmons faces such stars as Hal Bennett, the Utah state singles champion; Dave Colo-man, Colo-man, the local intereoUeglato champion; C. R. Johnson, oily singles champion of Logan; Knight Starr Jordan of Provo and a host of other fast players. The women's matches are also creating a groat deal of Interest and tho gallery will no doubt be treated to somo fast and clever matches by tho ladles. Somo of the best prizes of tho tournament will be given to the winners of the women's, matches. Tho events scheduled Include men's singles, sin-gles, men's doubles, women's singles, women's doubles and men's consolation singles. Match piny will be between the hot: re of 4 and 7 p. m. daily. The finals will be played Labor day, September 1. The prizes which will be awarded the winners of each event will be on display within the next few days in one of the downtown store windows. By notifying Paul Basset t, secretary of tho tournament, at the A. "G. Sppaldlug & Brothers store, arrangements for the comfort of out-of-town players will be made. Entries are open to ail tennis p'ayers In the Intermountain region and will be accepted up to and including Sunday. August Au-gust 24. Players wishing to participate in the tournament should send In their entries early, the list will e'ose promptly prompt-ly at S o'ehvk Sunday evening.
