Show AUSTRALIAN GIRLS LOSE IN HANDICAPS - NEW YORK, Aug. 19. Fanny Durack and Wilhelmina Wylie, the Australian swimming stars, lost in the handicap races here today. Miss Durack was defeated de-feated by Alice Lord of tho New York Women's Swimming association in a 250-yard 250-yard race, in w-hich the Australian champion conceded a 48-second handicap. Miss Lord won by ten yards in 4 minutes min-utes and 3 4 1-5 seconds, while her opponent's op-ponent's lime w-as 3:33 3-5. F.leanor and Ruth Smith, twin sisters, with a 3-second handicap, finished in a dea.d heat in a 125-yard breast-stroke swim ahead of Miss Wylie. who was actually ac-tually beaten on time. The Smith sisters' sis-ters' time was 1 minute and 56 3-5 seconds, sec-onds, compared with 2:03 3-5 for Miss Wylie. |
