Show TRIBUTE TO BE PAID DR. AfflH. SHAW Memorial Services for National Na-tional Suffrage Leader to Be Held Today. Memorial services for Dr. Anna Howard Shaw, former president of . the National Suffrage association, head of the national women's council of defense and one of the pioneers In founding the suffrage movement, who died a few days ago, will be held this afternoon In the assembly hai; at 2:30 o'clock Fitting tributes of respect will be paid the memory of Dr. Shaw by several of Utah's prominent women. Mrs. Elizabeth P. Hayward, first vice president of the Utah State Council of Women, will preside In the absence of the president, Mrs. F. S. Richards. An organ prelude, "Handel's Largo,'' will be played by Professoi' Tracy Y. Cannon. The invocation will be offered by Mrs. C. A. Walker, state secretary of the Women's Christian Temperance union. A quartet composed of Mrs. Norman G. Atkinson, At-kinson, Miss Edna Dwyer, R. R. Roberts Rob-erts and S. Abbott will sing "Lead, Kindly Kind-ly Light." Mrs. E. E. Corf man, former president of the Utah State Federation of Women's Clubs, will give a sketch of the life of Dr. Shaw; Mrs. Emmellne B. Wells, president of L. D. S. Relief societies, and the pioneer suffrage worker in' Utah, will give personal reminiscences of the life of Dr. Shaw. Others who will speak are: Mrs. Ruth May Fox and Mrs. Susa Young Gates of the general boards of Y. L. M. I. A. and Relief societies of the L. D. S. church and Miss Johana 31 el ton, a past officer of the G. A. R. Solos will be rendered by Mrs. Atkinson and Miss Dwyer. Dwy-er. There will be seats on the stand for all presidents of the different women's organizations. or-ganizations. The general public is invited invit-ed to attend. Dr. Slaw first visited Utah in May, 1S95, in company with Miss Susan B. Anthony, An-thony, then president . of the National Suffrage association. They assisted Mrs. Emmeline B. Wells and other suffrage workers in laying the preliminary steps for obtaining suffrage in Utah. In 1896 woman suffrage was granted in the state. i |
