The French mission to Australia, headed head-ed by General Paul Gerald Pau, one-armed one-armed hero of the Franco-Prussian war, and Albert Me tin, French scholar, soldier sol-dier and diplomat, arrived in the United States yesterday. After a visit in Washington Wash-ington the mission will tour Denver, Salt Lake and San Francisco. . Besides General Pau and M. Me tin, there are in the party Henri Corbiere, agricultural delegate: M. G. Thomson, labor delegate ; J. T. Meadows-Smith, British consular commonwealth representative represen-tative ; J. T. Leclerq-Motte, textile delegate; dele-gate; M. Mathieu. commercial delegate, and two secretaries. "I am greatly impressed by the wonderful won-derful dash and morale of the American troops fighti ng side by side with the French." said General Pau, who is of the family t-tock of Joan of Arc. "They are splendid soldiers, keen in initiative and amenable to rigid discipline, and they don't stop at obstacles. The American boys and their officers are winning imperishable im-perishable glory with their allied comrades com-rades in fighting for the liberty of the world." |
