Show WORK PROGRESSING AT SOLDIER SUMMIT Extensive "Y" to Serve All 26 Miles of Switching Tracks Completed. That the details of the great railroad terminal construction project at Soldier Summit, Utah, as announced exclusively in the Tribune a week ago, are being rapidly worked out is evidenced by the 1 receipt of telegraphic advices from Soldier Sol-dier Summit last night, stating that Eugene Eu-gene Xichols has been appointed postmaster postmas-ter at Soldier Summit, with J. H. Sagers as his assistant. A site has been purchased for the new postoffice of the Soldier Summit town site and construction on the permanent per-manent postoffice building will be started at once. The designation of Soldier Summit as the southern terminal of the Salt Lake division of the D. & R. G. railway and the decision to construct at Soldier Summit Sum-mit classification yards for freight moving mov-ing in and out of that point means the construction of twenty-six miles of switching switch-ing track, the erection of a $40,000 hotel and eating house, a great amount of grading and filing, a new 350-foot depot, in addition to the establishment of large mechanical shops, an engine house capable of holding sixty to eighty locomotives, storehouses, and the new town of Soldier Summit. The state highway, which formerly ran through that part of Soldier Summit now being laid with miles of switching track:; has been moved so that it runs directly through the new town site of Soldier Summit, and word from that point yesterday yes-terday stated that State street is being graded and will be in use next week. Corstruction work on the big engine house which is to house eighty engines started Friday, and fifty additional carpenters arrived at Soldier Summit Friday evening even-ing to begin construction on other railroad rail-road buildings. The great "Y" built by the railroad company to serve all of the twenty-six miles, of switching tracks was put in use Friday afternoon for the first time. The Soldier Summit dispatch also carried car-ried the announcement of the appointment of A. S. Sandmeir as station and express ex-press agent at that place. The town site selected at Soldier Summit Sum-mit offers every advantage. The H. C. Means Investment company, developing the Soldier Summit town site, reports a number of residence lots and a number of business sites to men who intend to erect stores and business structures to accommodate the new town. Mr. Means states that a number of investors in-vestors have already been down over the new town site, locating advantageously situated business and residence lots which they can purchase and hold for the increasing in-creasing Soldier Summit town site prices which, he says, seem certain. |
