Show GIB ALLOWED FOR SILT. LEI J J. Charles H. McKinnon' s Bail Is Accepted by ! Judge Landis. CHICAGO, Aug. 3. Nine of the defendants de-fendants in the Industrial Workers of the World conspiracy trial were released on their own recognizance today by Federal Judge Landis. Three others were allowed their freedom over Sunday. Those who will be out on bond for the remander of the trial are: R. J. Bobba of Globe, Ariz.; Alton E. Soper, Astoria, Ore.; James H. Manning, Fresno, Cal.; J. R. Basket t. Jerome, Ariz.; Charles H. McKinnon, Salt Lake, Utah; H. J. Kane, Globe, Ariz.; C. R. Griffin, Seattle, Wash.; Peter McElroy, San Francisco, Fran-cisco, and John M. Foss, Seattle. Those set free over Sunday are: George Hardy, of Seattle; Sam Scarlett; Akron, Ohio, and Fred Nelson, Rockford, 111. Charles H. McKinnon, mentioned in the dispatch, was arrested at his home, 15 East Seventh South- street, Salt Lake, September 19, 1917, by Detectives Harlow Lyon and Herbert Leichter of the police department and Secret Service Agent W. H. Davenport. He was held in the county coun-ty jail here until December, when he was taken to Chicago to be tried on the indictments in-dictments pending against him there. McKinnon, acording to the local police, is fifty years old, and prior to his arrest maintained an office in the Boyd Park building. He is said to be the highest paid solicitor in the Industrial Workers of the World organization, and is credited by police officials with being a man of considerable ability. |
