Show HALE AND JOHNS TO PLAY WITH THE BEES Special to The Tribune. ST. LOUIS, Jan. 28. Catcher George Haie, who served as Hank Severeld's understudy un-derstudy last season, and Infielder Pete Johns, recently obtained from the Columbus Colum-bus American association team, are to be released by the Browns to the Salt Lake club. The release of Hale was made possible through the deal whereby Catcher Les Nunamaker' of the Yankees goes to the Browns. Grover Hartley, who balked at s-'oing to the Columbus club, will likely ionri the third member of the Brown's catching staff. Johns wa3 obtained from me Columbus club to trv for the second base job in the event Pratt was traded, tut with Joe Gedeun included in tile deai with the Yankees, it is felt that Johns tan be spared. |
