Show ANDANIA SINKING. Another Cunard liner, the Andania, has been torpedoed by 'a German submarine, sub-marine, but the world has been spared a repetition of the Lusitania horror. In the case of the Andania tho first torpedo missed, while tho second found its mark, but failed to sink the ship immediately. All hands were ordered to the boats, and there was no loss of lifo due to the explosion. The boats containing the, pa.sseiigers and crew were sighted by patrols and trawlers and taken aboard within about, an hour after the liner was destroyed. The Germans are getting desperate with ta-e. When they arc iu thj. ttat. nothing pleases them so much as to slaughter women and children. That was what they did when they sank the Lusitania, and. that is what they intended in-tended to do when they torpedoed the Andania. Spain, which is pro-German in the world war, has been given another taste of Teutonic barbarity. The ' Spanish steamer Giralda has been sunk "by a German submarine, the vessel being pillaged before being torpedoed. This is nothing more nor less than piracy upon the high seas, for there could be no mistake as to the identity of the vessel. But if the government of Spain is willing to endure violations of international inter-national law, to say nothing of the supposed friendship between tho two nations, we are not going to .express any sympathy for the authorities at Madrid if the entire Spanish merchant marine is sent to the bottom of the sea. We expect to punish the Germans for' the wrongs they have inflicted upon us. Spain should do the same. |
