Show Strong Evidence Against German Plotter Brought Out at Trial. j NEW YORK. Jan. IS. Evidence tend-! ins to show that Franz von Rintelen, j "n.-rma.n naval officer, was the paymaster! of an organized force of plotters work- ! ing in this country in the interests of Germany was introduced today by the; government in his trial vith fifteen oth- ! ers, charged with conspiring to place bombs in munition ships. 1 One witness testified Von Rintelen had; suggested that a fee he paid to a jus- Lice of the United States supreme court to paws on the legality of a suit he proposed pro-posed bringing against a firm engaged In shipping munition's to the entente allies. Fred Jlenjes. shipping broker of this city, testified that he had been introduced intro-duced to Von Rintelen. then known as ianson. as a representative of the German Ger-man government lately arrived in this country. "Von Rintelen asked me during oiir flrst conversation if I could put him in touch with any one who would take a .iob to blow up bridges and factories," Ilenjes declared. During other conversations Hcnjcs said Von ltintelen declared that it was wrong for the United States to supply rmini tions to the entente allies and he thought it proper to stop the practice. Testimony that Von Rintelen had opened two aceounts totalling $50$, 000 with the Trans-Atlantic Trust company, one in his name and the ot her in that of Iv V. 'lihbons company, was given by (Jeorse F'lo.-hman, an officer of the trust com pa nj . John ' Mammond. an ad ertising agent, testified that after heing introduced intro-duced to the defendant, Von Rintelen had told bin i lie had come from Germany 10 the United Sta tes to bring about better commercial tela tions between tho two countries. Von Rintelen, the witness declared, de-clared, asked him If he- thought a plan could be worked out to pay u fee to a justice of the United States supreme court to pass on the legality of a test suit to stop the practice of shipping munitions mu-nitions to Germany's enemies. Hammond Ham-mond told him ho would be playing with dynamite. "During this conversation," Hammond added, "Von Rintelen spoke of having spent a large amoun t of money in buy-j buy-j ing up munition plants and said his trump ; card would be played whn strikes were ; declared in various parts uf the country."
