More than 400 boy scouts gathered in the house of representatives at the Capitol Capi-tol last night, while their fathers and mothers crowded the galleries and overflowed over-flowed into the hall, the occasion being the presentation of medals to the youths who had been victors of high marks in the last Liberty loan drive. The medals, which were provided by the United States government, were given to fifty-one boya who had attained a record of selling ten bonds each in the last campaign. Seven other boys were given the bronae bar for a similar service in the second loan drive. The formal presentation of the medals was made by Secretary of State Harden Bennion; whose address was followed by talks by Dan B. Shields, attorney general, gen-eral, and George Albert Smith. Following Follow-ing the medal presentation the boys saluted sa-luted the flag, sang several patriotic songs and gave cheers for the allies and for America. Each boy pledged himself to work for the fourth loan, the boys to take the "cleanup" position at the end of the drive from October 12 to October Octo-ber 19. At the meeting there was one bost wn0 has won three medals, these being the one for selling bonds, a second for planting plant-ing a war garden and inducing nine others to plant gardens, and a third medal, known as the "ace" medal, awarded award-ed for selling $250 of thrift stamps. For this' achievement the troop to which this youngster belongs was presented with the 100 per cent efficiency banner of the government. gov-ernment. Another hoy at the meeting was introduced to the assemblage and proudly displayed seven palm medals, each representing a sale of a $100 Liberty Lib-erty bond. One of the speakers related that one Salt Lake boy who was not present has won a total of thirty-two palms. The Liberty bond medal which is given the boys Is made of bronze. One Bide is engraved with the winner's name and on the face appears the Statue of Lib-, ertv, the boy scout emblem and a facsimile fac-simile of the seal of the I'nlted States.
