Show SPREAD NOTED iijpia WASHINGTON, Sept 27. Spanish influenza in-fluenza continues to spread today in army camps, 6S5 new cases having been reported re-ported to the office of the surgeon general gen-eral of the army during the twenty-four-hour period ending at noon. This was an increase of 6S5 over the new cases reported re-ported yesterday and brought the total for all camps to 42,367. Pneumonia showed a slight decre;Lse, 717 new cases being reported today, compared com-pared with 73 yesterday. Deaths today were 170, mostly from pneumonia. Apparently the situation at Camp Pevens, Mass.. has been gotten into hand. For the second successive day there was a decrease in the number of new cases reported. The number of new pneumonia cases also decreased. Influenza i3 increasing at Camp Pike, Ark. After a consultation with health officials, offi-cials, Senator Weeks of Massachusetts today introduced a resolution appropriating appropriat-ing $1,000,000 for the public health service' ser-vice' s cam pa ign. The resolution was referred to the appropriations ap-propriations committee. Majority Leader Martin promising its prompt consideration considera-tion as "a matter of vital importance." Provost Marshal General Crowd er, discussing dis-cussing the postponement of October draft calls on account of Spanish influenza, said no serious delay to the military program pro-gram would result "Jt may result in shortening the training train-ing period for some men before they embark," em-bark," he said, "but unless the epidemic continues serious later calls for October will be continued-" |
