A SAILOR and soldier, one wearing the deep blue uniform of Uncle Un-cle Sam's sea forces and the other the dull olive drab of the land fighter, clasped hands yesterday at the Utah, field artillery camp near Fort Douglas. The unusual affection evidenced in the greetings of the two, so different in appearance and yet enlisted en-listed in the same cause, brought 1 c'j-tale c'j-tale movements of arms and haaus towards the eyes of the arfcillery men who witnessed the meeting. They understood' un-derstood' the boys were brothers. When the call came for fighters recently, re-cently, Wallace and ( 'haunt ey Bourne, the sons of Mr. and Mrs. O. .1. Bourne, 919 Kamona avenue, lost no time in enlisting en-listing for the frnv. Wnliai e chose the navy and signed up at the local recruiting recruit-ing station. I le was i m mediately sent to the training station at San Diego. Chauncey decided to cast his lot with the land forces and a few days later was a member of the Utah light field artillery. Vrsterday, for the first time in three months, the brothers met. Wallace, with the completion of his training at San Diego, was given a furlough which allowed him to visit the city. He will now be assigned to sea duty. Chauncey is a private in A battery of the artil-lerv artil-lerv regiment. The brothers are nephews neph-ews of Major Ue Uoy Bourne, commanding com-manding the first battalion of the Utah artillery. Men Are Inspected. - Inspection of the men. tents and equipment took place yesterday morning morn-ing at the camp. "While the artillerymen artillery-men stood in . line in their battery streets officers of the command walked before the lines and inspected the uniforms uni-forms and equipment carried upon the person. While this was going on, medical medi-cal officers inspected the tents, mess halls and kitchens. During the ceremony cere-mony the band played in front of the headquarters tent. Following inspection the men were dismissed and allowed to visit their homes until the sounding of taps tonight. to-night. A guard, howeve"r, was selected to guard the camp ami show visitors around today. Officers said yesterday that the Mob horses now quartered at the state fair grounds would be brought to the camp during the week in order that mounted drills may be held. Officers of the regiment now believe that the move to the Linda Vista concentration con-centration camp will not be made until September lo. The delay is due to the fact that the grounds are not yet ready for occupancy. Appointments Confirmed. Announcement was made yesterday that the appointments of fifty-three officers of-ficers of the artillery have been continued, con-tinued, by Major General Hunter Liggett, Lig-gett, commanding the western department. depart-ment.
