Show j FLOUR PRICES TO DROP FORTY CENTS Reduction in .. Portland Market Is Scheduled to Take Place ' Tomorrow. PORTLAND, . Ore Sept. 1 . Flour in northwest markets will drop 40 j cents a barrel next Tuesday. An j agreement looking to that result was reached tonight by representative Pa- ' I cif ic coast millers at a meeting here.1 :This will bring, the price to 11.20 for; old-crop - patent flour. As soon as the; : government price of $2.20 a bushel, i Chicago- base, for wheat takes praeti- I cal effect, there will ;be a further and j more considerable drop in flour, the! millers said. , Some agitation was reported today: at northwest wheat centers and among! farmers for - a government-fixed base ! price here to match that at Chicago. ; Grain dealers pointed out that this: would result in shipments of grain to : the Portlaud'rathe'r than to the eastern j markets and that congestion would re- ! suit, : because tonnage is not available here to carry wheat to Europe. The only practical plan, it was said, was to make a differential between the Port- , land and the Chicago price which' would absorb the freight charge and j thus cause the shipment of wheat or ! flour eastward for export. This freight 1 charge is 3U cents a bushel. |
