Show ALBERT SUGGESTS BROMNED SCOPE Visiting Rotarian Would Enlarge Facilities of Local Lo-cal Commercial Club. An addition to the Commercial club, by acquiring the property west of the clubhouse club-house on Exchange place, and the building build-ing of a gymnasium with up-to-date equipment for the business men of Salt Ijake. was the suggestion of Allen D. Albert Al-bert formerly president of the International Interna-tional Association of Rotary clubs, at the weekly luncheon of tl.e Rotary club yesterday yes-terday at the Hotel Utah. The suggestion seemed to meet with the approval ox the club members present pres-ent in a large number, and Mr. Albert's ideas may gain root. Mr. Albert stated that it would go a long ways toward ! popularizing the club. He said there was no feeling of antagonism on the part of any of the civic organizations in Salt Lake City all working for a common interest, in-terest, and a place where tired business men could recreate would be an ideal idea and would add ten fold to the usefulness use-fulness of the organizations. Patriotic claims made tor the American Ameri-can flag, said Mr. Albert, will be true only when they are reflected in the lives of the wage earners of Ameriy. with annual an-nual income below 5750. Mr. Albert pictured pic-tured to the club members the purpose of the organization and their individual responsibilities, with an appeal to them to respond to those responsibilities. "Only when America is a refuge for the poor," he said, "and when in the lives of the poor are reflected the liberty lib-erty and the freedom and the comfort boasted of in this country, will the many generous things said of the American flag become true. The business busi-ness of America is identical with the business of Rotary In that It Is to make a haven for the poor. The man that will not co-operate to bring about this end must he ignored. The present war, if America enters It, must be a war of humanity and not a war against or for any nation." Mr. Albert defined the duties of Rotary as being of service to the Commercial club, service to the charities organization, which in Salt Lake is the Associated Charities organization. He stated that co-operation with the Commercial club was one of the chief obligations of the Rotarlans. and he placed upon them the obligation of redeeming the bonds of the Commercial club. |
